Lillies In The Distance

Osmosis, Centennial Park Sound Walk. July 2020.

Osmosis Statement

In a hope to combat the divide that Covid-19 and the Bushfires of 2020 brought, Osmosis invited a change to our communities through daily exercise. Sydney’s Centennial Park was soundscaped and reflected upon by a variety of local artists to create emotional responses and deepen our connection to our environment, while giving the public a moment to breathe.

Over a two week period, the community of Sydney was invited to attend Centennial Park. Following the prompts on a custom developed website from Osmosis, the audience was guided through the park to find a series of QR codes. Once scanned, the codes revealed a series of websites custom designed for each of the artists including listening directions, an embedded SoundCloud file followed by an artist statement, and finally a survey prompt with a question written by each of the contributing artists.

The result was a reflective and immersive experience that left our audience with a new connection to the beautiful landscape of Centennial Park.

Lillies In The Distance.

Lilies In The Distance is a sonic reflection of Centennial Park’s lily pond, expressed through separation. After relocated to Melbourne for studies, at a time with restricted travel, I wanted this piece to explore a reaction to detachment. The process imagined the lily pond’s habitat through a distant scope of division, where sounds are visual reflections, while its journey communicates a narrative of emotional and physical separation
